How to Choose a Wire Mesh Mist Eliminator: Start with These 4 Models
Which service conditions do the four models — Standard (SP), High-Efficiency (DP), High-Permeation (HP) and High-Liquid-Load (HR) — match? Find yours in the table below:
| Model | Service Conditions | Wire Dia. / Mesh Layers |
|---|---|---|
| SP Standard | General gas-liquid separation, evaporators | 0.23mm wire dia., multi-layer flat lay-up |
| DP High-Efficiency | Low mist content, fine droplet size | 0.15–0.19mm fine wire, more layers |
| HP High-Permeation | Allows slight liquid carry-through, prevents secondary entrainment | Coarse wire, large openings |
| HR High-Load | High liquid load, mesh flooding-prone | Double-layer structure with flow-guide design |
Rule of thumb: fine droplet size → DP; high load → HR; anti-clogging priority → Chevron (Vane-type) for ≥15–20μm droplets.
View Demister Specs →How Are G, F and H Grades Actually Classified?
Primary (G), Medium (F) and HEPA (H) grades correspond to different particle sizes and efficiencies. A wrong grade either wastes money or fails the cleanroom requirement:
| Grade | Efficiency (EN779) | Typical Use |
|---|---|---|
| G3 / G4 Primary | Captures ≥5–10μm coarse dust | HVAC pre-filtration, fresh air intakes |
| F5–F9 Medium | Average count efficiency 40–95% | HVAC medium stage, spray booth pre-filter |
| H10–H14 HEPA | ≥99.95% @0.3μm (H13) | Cleanrooms, pharmaceuticals, electronics workshops |
Cost rule: one grade up roughly doubles the price. Good pre-filtration can more than double the HEPA service life.
View Air Filter Specs →Structured Packing vs Random Packing: Column Diameter and Pressure Drop Decide
High-efficiency separation → prefer structured packing; high liquid rates / clogging-prone service → prefer random packing:
| Item | Structured Packing | Random Packing |
|---|---|---|
| Theoretical plates | CY type 8–10 plates/m | ~1.5–3 plates/m |
| Pressure drop | Low (preferred for vacuum distillation) | Medium to high |
| Cost | Higher | Lower |
| Clog resistance | Fair | Good (Pall rings / Intalox saddles) |
Vacuum distillation → CY wire gauze corrugated packing; atmospheric absorption → 250Y/350Y perforated plate packing; clog-prone towers → Pall rings. Not sure? Send us your process conditions for free selection.
